Sitting Group
Wednesday May 31, 2006

Back in December I wrote a post about starting up a sitting meditation group here in Birmingham, to be loosely linked with Gaia House. At the time of my previous article, I said that I was hoping that the group would get going in January… but today I glance at my calendar and see that June is around the corner…
Oh, well… things often take longer than expected. No matter! I’ve now started to get organised on the group at last, and even have a starting date – the 5th July. The plan is to meet weekly, banish the cat for a short while, do some meditation, and have some tea. I think that the regular weekly discipline will be a good thing; and there is something qualitatively different about the experience of meditating alongside others. I don’t think that this is anything particularly mystical. It is just that although practice may be in one sense always an individual matter, in another sense we are always practising, whether we are conscious of the fact or not, in community with others. Or so it seems.
Of course, if you are a practitioner familiar with Gaia House and you live in or around Birmingham, do get in touch, and I can let you have more details. And I’ll post more later to say how the group is going.
