All Systems Go

Gaia House

So, it’s finally started. I’ve been planning to set up a local sitting meditation group here in Birmingham ever since October, and after one false start, systems are now go.

The idea of the sitting group is to provide a way of making links between meditators who have a connection with the various traditions of insight meditation taught at Gaia House. Most retreats at Gaia House are held in almost complete silence, which is a wonderful thing from the point of view of connecting more deeply with meditation, although it has certain disadvantages in terms of connecting more deeply with other meditators. Regular visitors to thinkBuddha will know that the relationship between the solitude of meditation and a broader connection with others is one of my preoccupations (see this recent post for example); so I’m hoping that this group should redress the balance a little.

At the first meeting last Wednesday night there were only a couple of us, but a few more folks are hoping to make it in the next few weeks. I’ll keep visitors to thinkBuddha posted on how things go. But for the time being, why not pay a visit to the very simple website I threw together yesterday for the group by clicking here.

Wow, that’s a beautiful website you’ve “thrown together” Will, it takes special skill to be simply beautiful..

Ah, that reminds me of a wealthy industrialist who was a supporter of Gandhi’s cause. He said, “It cost me a fortune to keep Gandhi simple.” :)

Thanks, Lewis, although it’s mainly thanks to the elegance of the exquisitely small and beautiful textpattern (http://www.textpattern.com) that something like this can be put together so easily…
