Making Waves
Sunday August 20, 2006

Today I take the train down from Birmingham to Totnes, where I am spending five days on a course on the subject of Buddhism and Contemporary Enquiry at the Sharpham Centre.
It looks as if it is going to be a stimulating week. Amongst the sessions are some of the following: Stephen Batchelor on Buddhist secularism; Jenny Wilks and Duncan Moss on mindfulness and healthcare; Thanissara on mindfulness; Sue Blackmore on life without free will (and perhaps without free won’t as well); Caroline McKenzie on honouring difference; and John Pecock on ethics, meaning and values in the contemporary world.
This is a fairly rich brew, so if I don’t have the chance to write anything during the week, I’ll put down some of my thoughts and impressions from the week on my return…
WOW! The “menu” looks very impressive—I think all of us will be waiting impatiently for any info on such interesting topics. Especially “secularism” and “life without free will” parts are most intriguing for me:)
It was indeed an impressive menu, Algis, food so rich that I couldn’t sleep much during the week and sat up writing most nights…
I’ll post about Stephen Batchelor’s sessions later, but I’ve just added something about free will.
Best wishes,
Will (free or unfree – take your pick!)
